Before and
After School Programs

On-site before- and after-school care is provided for children attending BCS as well as for other children from neighboring schools. Before-school care is available from 7am. Children who attend Happy Valley Elementary are walked to Happy Valley at 8:40am, and there are also drop-off and pick-up arrangements at Happy Valley for kindergarteners attending BCS half days, and for students coming to BCS for after-school care.

The after-school program aims to provide an experience similar to going home after school. The children have a snack at 3:15 and at 5:00. They are encouraged to play outdoors, as if they were at home in their own backyard. Individual, quiet activities often take place as children seek their own relaxation after school.

Fees for these programs are on an hourly, as-used basis.

School Holiday Day Camps

We offer day camps during school holidays (fall, Christmas, midwinter and spring) for our students and other children aged 3-14 in the Bellingham area. Fees are per week or per day. Please contact the school for details.

Homeschool Support

BCS has long supported the value of homeschooling. A part-time, flexible schedule is offered to homeschool students who may wish to enroll at BCS for academic enrichment or to participate in art, Spanish, or general social activities.

Some families coordinate school activities with their homeschool plan, while others prefer to keep the two experiences separate. Parents are offered the opportunity to connect with the other homeschooling families at the school, to share experiences and offer mutual support.

For families committed to home schooling, but dealing with the necessity of employment, the flexible schedule at BCS is often the answer.

BCS Summer Program

BCS garden and goats

Summers at BCS have the same relaxing atmosphere that is provided from September through June. Weekly day camp sessions feature arts and crafts as well as nature studies, with the school gardens providing a wealth of learning and play opportunities. A daily routine that includes reading and writing is also a part of each session.

A highlight every summer is the American Girls day camp week. American history comes alive with theater, crafts, games and snacks from each of the time periods featured in the American Girls books. Girls as young as 5 and as old as 17 attend the American Girls week.
